Understanding materials....

The SLOTBOX is made in Canada of shipping grade 32ECT E-Flute cardboard.

There are a few things to consider when choosing a box mailer. What is it made of? Will it be strong enough? Will it protect my product? Is it sustainable? Is it recyclable? Does it support our economy?

What is CORRUGATED CARDBOARD? Corrugated material is comprised of three fiberboard layers; two linerboards sandwich a middle sheet that is in a wave-shaped a pattern of arches known as FLUTES. These flutes are anchored to the linerboard with an adhesive. On end, flutes form rigid columns, capable of supporting a great deal of weight. Flutes come in a wide range of strength and thickness. All cardboard is 100% recyclable as long as it is not lined with wax, plastic, or embellishments like glitter etc..

What is EDGE CRUSH STRENGTH? Corrugated strength is most commonly described using the Edge Crush Test. “ECT”. It measures how much weight a corrugated sheet can withstand when standing up on its edge in a lab setting. For example, a 23A corrugated sheet can withstand 23 pounds of pressure. Not all cardboard is intended for shipping. Flutes higher than E, like F and G Flute are for product packaging, not shipping purposes. The SLOTBOX is comprised of 32ECT E-Flute, withstanding 32 pounds of pressure. The strongest of the thin cardboard designated for shipping.

VIRGIN vs RECYCLED CONTENT vs 100% RECYCLED As paper fibres are recycled they get shorter and weaker. Virgin paper fibre is the longest and strongest and 100% recycled fibres are the shortest and weakest. Meeting in the middle is the best of both worlds and most cardboard is comprised of a combination of both virgin fibres for strength and recycled content for sustainability. The SLOTBOX is comprised of cardboard that is 45%-60% recycled content. Every batch will have slightly different recycled content, but must always pass the minimum strength test of 32 pounds edge crush strength. (100% recycled paper products are commonly used for product packaging, not shipping)

WHERE THE PRODUCT COMES FROM? In this global economy there are companies that have a product created for the Canadian market but made in China or elsewhere. These products travel the waters in large shipping containers, leaving behind a much larger carbon footprint than products produced locally. The SLOTBOX is made in British Columbia with Canadian-made cardboard. Employing Canadians, supporting our economy and minimizing the carbon footprint.

TRANSPARENCY MATTERS Don’t always be swayed by lower pricing. There are products made of lower grade material meant for product packaging, not shipping. Ask before you buy.

The SLOTBOX offers an honest product at a great price and refunds shipping cost overages when they occur. It is made of 32ECT E-Flute cardboard with high recycled content here in Canada making it a great choice for thin and sturdy Lettermail box mailers on the Canadian market for quality, sustainability, and competitive pricing when it comes to your mailing needs.
