YES, that is a great option if you want to skip the line and say goodbye to those trips to the post office by purchasing a small digital kitchen scale and an assortment of postal stamps.
You can weigh and place postage on your packages yourself. Visit the RESOURCE tab or BLOG for stamp combinations.
You can find a decent scale in the range of $20 -$40. Canadian Tire has them on sale often.
TIP - Purchase a lettermail template, and you can mail with full confidence.
-
Having a lettermail slot template is a great tool to confirm you pass the 20mm slot prior to the trip to the post office. You can buy one here on the Slotbox website or visit the RESOURCE page for more options.
-
You can deposit the box at your local post office or in the large red street receptacles.
Unfortunately, Canada Post intentionally designed the community hubs outgoing mail receptacles to not accept oversize lettermail so that they will not get overstuffed with mail too quickly. The red metal rain guard is on such an angle that a box, even one under 20mm will not fit.
This leads to some confusion. Know that the “20mm” size requirement is for the processing of mail in machinery at the CP facilities, not for the receptacles where you drop your mail off.
-
Yes and maybe… If a box is too small to meet the length and width requirements, then yes, it is required to be in an envelope that is min. 140mm x 90mm in size. Also, a requirement of “Machinable mail” is to be in an envelope for ease of box into / protect the mail processing machinery.
Larger boxes that satisfy length, width, depth - Canada Post has been known to accept without an envelope when taped securely closed. However, it is at their discretion. So, if you wish to mail without an envelope, Canada Post asks you have a CP associate access and accept it into their system.
-
Sorry no, not as lettermail. The Slotbox is still a sturdy little mailing buddy, so as boxes go, you can certainly use it to safely send small items.
Anything leaving Canada that is not a paper document no longer qualifies for lettermail rates and is sent a one of the parcel services with a customs declaration.

British Columbia PST exemptions are available for customers who provide the number directly to the order page when placed. Enter it in the "additional information" section. It is required to be on every invoice. It is not kept on file.
If you wish to have the PST exemption, it is your responsibility to add yourBC PST# to every order placed. The website will still collect the PST, but you will be refunded the appropriate amount.
Note: The Slotbox is not required by law to provide PST exemptions. If you forget to add your exemption #, you can apply to the Ministry for a refund for all your PST paid out on business expenses by mailing in a completed Application for Refund – General (FIN 355).

A folded box that is properly folded and taped shut is 18.5 mm and easily has wiggle room for the thickness of an envelope.
Slide the box through a 20mm template before packing it to ensure it was folded correctly. Then pack the box.
if you find the box getting stuck on the corner going through the slot template, gently tamp edge down with hammer
If you find the box getting stuck in the middle going through the slot template, try removing some of your packing material and/or rearrange your items.( ie: take stud earrings off the card hanger, use less tissue paper etc… ) - and try again.
The Slotbox works for 1000’s of Canadians, but if can not preform miracles! If your product is too big it will have to be sent as a parcel service.
-
Sorry No, customization of the Slotbox is not offered. You can approach a box manufacture if you need a specific size. Also, stamping your own logo is very easy thing to do yourself, at a fraction of the cost of a print service. There are many Canadian companies that will create a custom rubber stamp for you. Apply ink and stamp your box before folding to ensure a nice crisp image. You will find a few companies listed in the RESOURCE section of the website.
-
YES OF COURSE! A custom listing catered to your box needs is welcomed. Email info@theslotbox.com with your request and don't forget to provide your address for an accurate shipping quote.

The SLOTBOX is produced in BC, and made of 32ECT - E Flute cardboard, the thinnest 3 ply corrugate acceptable for shipping. The cardboard is 45%-60% recycled content. The variance of recycled content will alter the cardboard from batch to batch but all board must meet the industry rate of crush strength of 32lbs per inch edge strength. It may appear different in colour or in rigidity, but all E flute recycled board is more than plenty strong for the intended use of the box. The weights are estimates as each batch will slightly vary in weight due to the recycled content or the colour of the box. A white box is slightly heavier due to the extra white layer.
