Envelope?

Does the box need to be placed into an envelope?….Yes and maybe…

If the box is too small to meet the length and width requirements, then YES, it is required to be in an envelope that is a min. 140mm x 90mm in size and fit within the 20mm thickness. Also, YES, an envelope is a requirement of “Machinable Mail” for ease of box into / protect the mail processing machinery. Note the small size Slotbox needs be placed in an envelope large enough to satisfy Canada Post minimum size for Non-standard lettermail when mailing.

However, Canada Post has been know to accept boxes not in an envelope into the system. So, if you wish to mail without an envelope have a CP associate accept the box; they have final say. If accepted, it may go the machine route or it may be hand-sorted, taking longer to arrive at its destination

The SLOTBOX recommends an envelope because

Canada Post requests it. Customers love a gift box. A nice looking box has a chance of reuse before ending up in the recycle bin.
