No tracking -No problem! Tips for mailing as Lettermail.
1000’s of Canadians sucessfuly send items in Canada Post every day!
If you are new to mailing, you may be nervous sending items untracked in Canada Post. Non-delivery is very rare, usually there is reason for it, and almost nearly all the time Canada Post will return it to you.
There are steps you can follow to help ensure confidence of delivery for the items you send.
1) Address is clear and correct in centre of envelope. If a condo unit, make sure the unit # is included.
2) Proper postage has been applied. Non-Standard/Oversize lettermail postage is by weight increments upto 500g, over that and it must be sent as a parcel. Starting at $2.09 stamp for under 100g.
3) Your return address clearly applied in the top left hand corner.
4) Take a photo of the envelope. Hold onto this photo for a month. You can send customer the photo as proof you sent item, or refer back to it in the event customer claims it was not delivered.
5) In the event that a customer claims they have not received the item - confirm the address you applied is the same as the one they provided. Google the address. Is it a house? A condo or apartment? The onus is on the customer to provide you the full and correct mailing information. More often than not, the address is missing a UNIT#. If this is the case, Canada Post will return it you free of charge, as long as you have a return address on the envelope.
6) Canada is a big place! Know the delivery standards set out by Canada Post. Mail crossing the country takes time, as well as mail going urban centers vs rural areas. Delivery standards can also be affect by holidays, bad weather, and busy seasons like Christmas. Delivery Standards and Service Interuptions are posted on the Canada Post website.
7) In the event that a customer claims they have not received the item - send along the photo if not previously done and review the above steps. Let them know to check around the mailbox, with neighbors, or go to the post office they normally pick parcels up from. Often is the case that the post worker places mail near mailbox if it does not fit in it.
Don’t panic and resend an order just because a customer says they did not receive it.
Often there is a good reason for the delay or non-delivery . It is your choice how you wish to proceed for non-delivery of an item, but know that if it is missing a unit number or the address is incorrect, Canada Post will “Return to Sender” the item to you as long as you placed a return address in the top left hand corner.
