Mailing outside of Canada

Any items that are not PAPER documents / corospondence that crosses the Canadian border must have a customs declaration on it and be sent using a parcel service. This means you are not to send any items like jewelry, soap, makeup, chocolate etc… outside of Canada as lettermail. You will have to use one of the parcel services such as “small packet”, “tracked packet” etc.. or other courier service like Fedex, UPS etc.. There are a few exceptions the “paper only” rule, like a business card that is a fridge magnet or a coin that is not loose. Please visit Canada Post to see list of paper exceptions.

Here is an example if it helps. A standard paper birthday card can go to the USA with a $1.40 lettermail stamp or Internationally with a $2.92 lettermail stamp. HOWEVER, if you place a necklace in with the birthday card, that changes things. The birthday card is no longer just paper so it no longer qualifies as any Lettermail service. It now must be sent as a parcel service with a customs declaration on it when crossing the border.

All this being said, the Slotbox is still a sturdy little mailing box, so as boxes go, you can certainly use the Slotbox to safely send small items across borders and internationally with one of these other services.
